subject Falling short on security, environment
Dear Stephen,
Well it certainly has been awhile. My pre-move break turned into a long vacation from writing, as other projects took form and then dissolved, and the move can and went. Now I’m in Montréal, we found an apartment in Villeray. Meghan is looking after the gallery but I fear for its stability. I worked 1 week at Oboro building temporary walls for their next exhibition, and I’ve made some new art for Peter Buckland, but that is all for job prospects. This week I must get inventive and proactive. The financial pressures are spilling over into all other aspects of our couple, and for us newlyweds the honeymoon is definitely over.
I notice that Yann Martel is still sending you books, and that your office sent him a response on May 8. I’m including it here just in case you yourself didn’t read it or know that it had been sent.
Dear Mr. Martel:
On behalf of the Prime Minister, I would like to thank you for your recent letter and the copy of Tolstoy’s The Death of Ivan Ilych. We appreciated reading your comments and suggestions regarding the novel.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to write.
Sincerely,
Susan I. Ross
Assistant to the Prime Minister
Mr. Martel has sent you some good suggestions, quite varied. I thought I had read Oranges are not the only fruit but then I remembered that I had only seen the movie. Recently we watched Les particules élementaires, a German film based on the book by Michel Houellebeq. It was quite good. I’m still wading my way through La possibilité d’un isle (in both English and French) but I am finding it difficult in that it seems so depressing. I’m veering towards some depression myself right now so I think I should try to focus on more uplifting literature. Maybe I’ll work on Le Petit Prince, I see Mr. Martel recently sent you a copy.
Anyway, I’ll gradually bring you up to speed on what has happened the past couple months. It’s late and I’m trying to get up early. I have an appointment with the car tomorrow, I have to have a Québec inspection before it can be registered, even though it was inspected and I spent another $600 on it back in September in New Brunswick. But I understand that Québec is a different nation.
