subject Registre des armes à feu: Trudeau s’explique; Child welfare staff examined as inquiry into aboriginal toddler’s death continues

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived another Monday, and also the weekend, which also means I survived Rose getting a cold, fever, runny nose, cough, crankiness, and as well as general malaise on my part. SAD, perhaps? The short days aren’t helping. I’m beat by 8pm most days. It seems to take more and more time and energy to get Rose down, get her fed, get her bathed, get her dressed.

I’m taking a nice long break from Facebook.

Here’s a letter from SumOfUs for a petition I signed:

In Uganda, it’s already illegal to be gay. But some government officials — with support from American evangelicals — want to take government-sanctioned homophobia a step further. They’ve proposed the Anti-Homosexuality Bill that would, among other things, institute the death penalty for “aggravated homosexuality”.

But I know that if Pepsi, which has a huge presence in Uganda, speaks out against the bill and the harmful effect it would have on investment and economic development in Uganda, it would force Ugandan officials to put the bill on hold — or even pull it entirely.

Can you join me in adding your name to our petition to Pepsi, telling it to speak out against this horrific “Kill the Gays” bill that’s racing through the Ugandan Parliament.

Tracy and Ronaldo met with their lawyer and DPJ caseworkers and they are now allowed to stay at home 24-hrs, so long as Tracy’s mom is there. Apparently criminal charges may still be pending. Their Australia plans are on ice. Still a nightmare.

I blow my gasket over parking tickets, i can’t imagine what I would do if I was to become embroiled in a bureaucratic nightmare such as theirs.

Oh, and in case you were wondering I have almost no opinion on the fact that the Duchess Kate Middleton is pregnant. Please, can we try to be a little less obsessed with an archaic monarchy?

subject Altercation houleuse à la Chambre des communes; MPs argue ‘nose to nose’ as tempers flare over budget bill

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived a day home with Rose. She had a fever yesterday at daycare and as such couldn’t go today. I took her with me in the car to run some errands, picking up the dhc tech team Xmas card photos, and hanging at home depot but not really buying anything there. Some Xmas decorations, a star to finish the tree off on our front porch, and a couple glass clingy-thingies.

Here’s a copy of a letter I wrote to Radio-Canada this morning, after clo and I had yet another conversation about how there is never any talk about visual art :

Merci,

subject Justin Trudeau renvoie le débat constitutionnel aux calendes grecques; Revelations of altered document in Aboriginal child-death inquiry

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived:

another Monday;

the weekend;

the block-party we had yesterday for all three apartments in the building, starting upstairs with Sarah and Fred in our old place, moving down to Judith’s then finishing at our apartment. Christophe, Anne-Laure and Victor came as well and Victor and Rose had a blast together. Very cute;

shopping with Rose for Femke’s birthday present. We bought her an animal stamp kit;

a full week without checking in even once to Facebook;

a rejection (finally) from the curatorial services at the House of Commons for my proposal to paint Paul Martin’s portrait;

the snow last night and the rain this morning and the fog this afternoon;

a slow, low energy day at work;

The Nexxen takeover;

occassional bouts of sneezing;

shaving off the handlebar moustache.

subject Le Canada durcit ses sanctions contre l’Iran; Shutting down robocalls challenge will have chilling effect, lawyer argues

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived a very sleepless night; Rose was awake with a nasty cough from about 12:30am. After a visit to the clinic this morning she was prescribed some asthma puffers.

I spent the day at home with her, and at the clinic, and at the pharmacy, where she was 90% angelic and 10% evil, notably 2 giant crisis’s each time leaving the pharmacy. She wouldn’t get dressed and it was the coldest day of the year.

Also I want to say I did go on Facebook today but only to post this message on the wall of Citibank, after getting an email from Change.org:

More than 560,000 people are calling on Citibank to condemn Uganda’s “Kill the Gays” bill. Citi’s gay employees and customers in Uganda need your help: http://chn.ge/QbanON

I also received a phone call from Louis-Phillipe who heads up the regional organization of EDAs in southern Quebec, and we tentatively booked our Papineau AGM for March 13.

subject L’armée peine à retenir sa capacité de renseignement acquise en temps de guerre; In Newtown, white crosses, tidy lawns and teddy bears for sale

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. Survived : weekend, mom’s visit, finishing the plaster and first coat of paint on the ceiling in the basement, the DHC-PHI Xmas party, a date with Clo (supper at Omma, delicious Korean, and a movie, Hitchcock, surprisingly good, about the making of Psycho), and another early morning at work (I’ve been here since 6:30, meeting the wallpaper installers). The wallpaper in 451 looks stunning. This will be a really, really good exhibition, I can sense it.

Trying not to think about all the pro-gun activists out there who are convinced the “right to bear arms” must include assault rifles, semi-automatic pistols, and the ease and accessibility of these weapons. Wait, guns don’t kill people, people kill people.
