subject Le Canada lance un nouvel appel à une sortie de crise rapide en Syrie; Does Canada Day mean something particular to Canadians?

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. We moved, we are still alive. The unpacking is going
slow but we have moved, and are still alive. Rose likes her new bed
and mattress. No, I did not build the frame, we bought a used one, and
Clo bought a brand new futon mattress made here in Montreal which is
very, very comfortable. Gilles was here a few days this past week
painting, he painted almost everything.

Happy Canada Day. I’ll write more when I’m not so exhausted.

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. Survived the work week. My parents arrived earlier
than expected this afternoon after cycling about 122 km; they have
been cycling for 2 weeks from New Brunswick, North Shore! The hills of
Charlevoix! They are very lean and tan. They were thrilled to see Rose
and she was thrilled to see them.

The apartment renos, they continue like the heat, unabated.

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. We are surviving the apartment. A new wall is in
place in the basement. I have to fight the urge to pick and pull and
remove all the weird shit that comprises 75% of the apartment. Stick
to the priorities. The priorities are: building the shelves so we can
unpack the books (waiting on plaster); curtains in the kitchen (to
keep out prying neighbouring eyes); screen door in the kitchen (to
keep out flies); outdoor Xmas lights for the backyard (for barbecue
ambiance); hanging hardware and tracks for the three big-ass mirrors
that were left in the studio / guest room (they used to be closet
doors but the hardware and tracks are now missing); storage in the
basement; garbage; shelving in the hallway; and of course, the RC
washroom demo. My dad is planning to start it tomorrow. Clo is on
vacation. I am back to work tomorrow. She cut my hair today, so I
really need a shower (itchy). Stacy joined us for supper, hamburgers
on the BBQ. Rose has turned her cuteness factor. Tomorrow I am back to
work.

subject Un individu est expulsé d’une fête conservatrice; “Right fit” may be deciding factor in scramble for public sector jobs

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived my parents’ visit this past week. It was
a huge help with the move and demolition and renovations and unpacking
of boxes and watching of Rose. Mom completely planted a garden in the
front and back, and my dad pulled EVERYTHING out of the bathroom
(shower stall, toilet, sink and 3″ of ceramic tile and cement).
Etienne and I pulled up 3 Husky bags-worth of rotten wood from the sub
floor, including original hardwood turned to paper and fine dust by
termites many decades ago. The piecemeal repair work done over the
years astounds and amazes me.

I haven’t had time to write and I think there was a number of days
where we were completely without Internet anyway (my mom would go to
the McDonalds to post from her iPod Touch). Today we took a road trip
to Val Morin to visit Sophie, Mathieu and their kids, which involved a
delicious gazpacho and a long swim in the river. Afterwards we met up
with Clo’s parents in Val David to celebrate their 40th wedding
anniversary and share some news with them: Rose will have a baby
brother or sister in early 2013. Aside from our parents you are the
first to know. Due date is February 13.

subject Paradis a ordonné à son ministère de rencontrer des firmes de son comté; Blatchford: Despite attempts at propriety, little can hide tawdry nature of Manitoba judge’s sex trial

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived another Monday. Work was fine, I was
finally able to look at the security footage from a few weeks ago and
found the thief, just can’t identify him. He slipped in during a
10-minute window when the gallery front doors were left open right
after lunch, as the guys were coming in and out.

In other news, Pan is now 99% sure he can bring me down (i.e. afford
to pay a modest fee) for the Art in the Open festival in Charlottetown
the end of August. I will be the Public Goalie, standing guard in
front of monuments, parks, heritage buildings and other tourist spots
while inviting the public to take shots at me. I’ll need him to buy me
a right and left-handed hockey stick.

Unpacking and shelf-building continues slowly but steadily. No new
work on the bathroom since Friday.

Tonight we cooked a Blue Marlin steak on the barbecue. Should I be
worried that it might be an endangered fish, or over-fished, or fished
under dubious circumstances? Damn, a quick Google search tells me that
according to the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of
Nature) it is a threatened species in the category of “vulnerable” and
it’s numbers are diminishing. In 2010 Greenpeace added it to its Red
List. Darn, it was tasty.

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I spent a good chunk of my afternoon today making a Facebook page for the Papineau EDA / ACE. Would you kindly like it if you have time? I need 30 likes before I get access to the next page level which will allow me to see more stats, or something like that. I also managed to fax in my request to head office to have access to SIMS. Wasn’t that supposed to be replaced last month with the new system? No matter, I probably won’t use it much anyway. I think for the moment I’ll concentrate on trying to get more of my artist and activist friends to become members, and wait until the fall to see if
any real conservatives want to join up. It’s a bit of a mind-bender, this split-personality project. I have no idea how it will all play
out. I don’t even know what I am doing presently.

Met up with Sarah and Clo after work, we ate La Dinette Triple Crown picnic basket in the park near Sarah’s apartment, then I fixed her creaky fan and dislodged a few drawers and doors that she had painted shut. Came home and installed two new light fixtures in Clo’s room. Good grief it is almost midnight I still need a shower.

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. Survived another day of work. It was fun this morning, we hosted a site visit from the artist Cory Arcangel, he might be the DHC summer 2013 show. You should check out his website. Also, can you Like the page I made on Facebook for the local conservative party EDA / ACE? There are only 11 Likes so far. I need 30 to reach the next level. The link is here:

Skyped with my folks and Trev and Tamara tonight, announcing the February arrival of Rose’s sister or brother. She now gives
conflicting replies as to which she would prefer: sometimes she says brother, sometimes sister. Clo is out tonight so it was just me and Rose after supper, and after doing some actual DEAR PM art-related Internet work, I am about ready for bed. I did not sleep well last night, but luckily Rose has been sleeping in until 8:30 all week. I think I will curl up with the new New Yorker. No apartment renos for me tonight.
