subject JO de Sotchi: Baird s’inquiète du sort des athlètes gais; Gay Russians seeking refuge in Canada in wake of homophobic new laws
Dear Stephen,
I am still alive. I survived the first three weeks of vacation. I survived Grand Falls, NB, Halifax, Lunenburg, Ponhook, Montague PEI, Charlottetown, the beaches, the country, the highways, a week at the peninsula…hmm, did I already write you while on vacation? I can’t remember and am too lazy to check. I made Everyday Goalie videos at Peggy’s Cove, at the Hopewell Rocks and in front of the Irving Oil Refinery (the latter just a night before you were there! We passed like two ships in the night, as we returned to Montreal on the day you were there). Incidentally we could here a thumping racket the whole drive back resulting i us re-packing our stuff five times, turns out it was a broken part of the suspension so the car is at the shop I’ll pick it up tomorrow, $550 shorter. Also we had to pay our auto registration, $320 gone. AND we lucked out an Sol has a place in a daycare, starts on paper the last week of August though he won’t actually be going until early September, and even then only 3 days per week. Still, another $800 or so to cough up before the reimbursements kick in. I’m with Sol all weekend as Clo has yoga teacher training classes, and tonight is on a supper date with Sarah W. I’m heading out later tonight for a dance party chez Skol, though right now I could just as easy go straight to bed! Leaving Rose was an ordeal, we had my parents run an errand the morning we left so that they trundled her into their car and left before us, which avoided a meltdown on her part but boy! Did we ourselves shed a few tears after they left. We Facetime daily but miss her terribly. I am supposed to be finishing some pucks, my hockey cards and some video editing but honestly, I don’t have the time or motivation. My free time goes towards laundry, Facebook, 3 new issues of the New Yorker, good coffee, and classifying our vacation photos. Oh, and we bought Sol a Jolly Jumper, which he loves and bounces so much in it, though he can only stand that much fun for about 10 minutes at a time. He is still very much a guy smiley. Clo on her way home, I’m on my way out. I’ll write about the Transcanada pipeline tomorrow, maybe, and more details on our visit in Saint John.

Dear Stephen,
I am still alive. I survived Venice. I’ll explain more about it all when I am not so jet-lagged.
