Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived Canada Day 2013. Spent most of the day clearing crap out of the basement; the unfinished basement. Re-purposed the old ceiling panel board to cover exposed insulation. Also survived a BBQ at Sarah and Etienne’s with lots of kids. I did not make any art today, but I discussed it at the party, and thought about various projects throughout the day. 5 hours left in the Venice campaign, you still have time to contribute.

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. Survived a late-night summer blues dance party last night, followed by very late-night grilled cheese sandwich at NDQ. Today I survived the heat, a trip to the wading pool, a non-napping 3 and-a-half year old, and a trip to the MAC to seethe Michel de Broin show, topped off by a free circus show, then an “I want ice cream” crisis, and 1.5 hours of putting an over-tired child to bed. Now I’ve had a quick shower and am on my way to bed myself.

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive I am surviving my kids, mostly surviving Rose, she has been having these fits and goes crazy when she doesn’t get what she wants. We’re threatening to take her to the basement if she doesn’t start to behave and a little trip down there tonight scared her a fair bit I think, which kind of breaks my heart a little bit but at the same time she has to learn, right? And we can’t exactly hit her, or even threaten to, right? How did you deal with kids when they demand demand demand and don’t listen … aarg she was up again, this time because the baby monitor (which doesn’t even work) was flashing and upsetting her. Did I tell you that for the past few nights Sol has been sleeping in Rose’s room? He’s in the crib now. He sleeps more and more on his side, cute little guy. I need a shower.

subject Le Bloc québécois presse Ottawa d’agir immédiatement; In wake of Lac-Megantic tragedy, Transport Canada admits it didn’t deliver on all oversight promises

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived a crazy day with the @spvm. I first received a ticket for going through a red light on my bike, then when I decided to alert other cyclists of the traffic trap I was given a ticket of $651!!! So needless to say I exploded on social media and now have a slew of interviews for tomorrow, starting at 7:15am at CBC. Ugh. In other news, we received and replaced the projector bulb for Colors (which now looks 100x better) and Rose had no real tantrums this evening. Pip came over for supper so maybe we just need to have over more guests?

subject Colombie-Britannique: Christy Clark remporte l’élection partielle; Watchdogs contradict Transport Canada safety oversight claims following Lac-Megantic disaster

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived the media-frenzy. I think I did eight interviews today, a variety of radio and TV, mostly English but a couple French. The story is all over Facebook. It’s been hard to keep up, and I’ve been biking all over to meet people here and there. Did you catch any of it? A lot of documents keep surfacing that show other legal precedents and I am less and less worried that I will have to pay the $651 in the end, I think they will toss it out in the hopes all the bad publicity will go away. Anyway, we went to the big pool again this afternoon after daycare, then hung out in the park having a picnic and just hanging out, and now it’s late and I really just need to get some sleep. Tomorrow have lots of apartment prep plans plus to make up for the things I didn’t get done today because all I really did were interviews all day. There is one group on Facebook that really want me to run for Mayor, or at least announce it, make a page or something, somewhat satirical. Now wouldn’t that be interesting!

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived a day or running errands and getting ready to go to Gatineau for the weekend. Car mostly loaded now, we plan to leave early in the morning to catch a special flea market just outside the city. No new calls for interviews today, though the daycare workers were quite amused to see me on the cover of 24 heures.

subject Du sang neuf à Ottawa; Stephen Harper expected to keep Jim Flaherty in key finance post during Monday’s cabinet shuffle

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived family party in Gatineau (celebrating the 50th wedding anniversary of Pierre and Claire), and the drive there and back. We left Rose with Mami and Papi and hit a Toys R Us on the way home to stock up on some items useful for the long drive ahead, including a new car seat for Rose. Now we’re home and getting the apartment ready for the sublets. Hey what gives with the Zimmerman acquittal? Pretty sad when paranoia and “right to kill” (i.e. “stand your ground”) are driving forces in society. Hope that shit doesn’t take hold here.

subject Remaniement ministériel: le Québec perd des pions; Stephen Harper requested list of enemy lobby groups, bureaucrats and reporters, documents show

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived another Monday, a rather short day at work. I went behind the wall in G7 to make adjustments to the projector for Data Diaries. The rest of the day was spent preparing lists, sending documents (before my email crashed; too many messages) and preparing my defence. Everyone at work had heard of the $651-ticket fiasco. Stopped at 3 photo stores trying to find a top for my tripod, no dice. May borrow a tripod from Stacy. Came home, built shelving for the storage closet in the basement. After supper painted the fridge a bright peachy-pink colour. Now I am in dire need of a shower and something cold to drink.

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I hope Google or Gmail or whoever does not lose all my email because I have not backed up anything in like 2 years. Today, a slowish day at work, a good weekly meeting (Phoebe and Tammy there), so felt like some direction was happening. Stacy and James came over for drinks after work, then we had pizza after Clo finished yoga. I gave Sol 2 really long cool baths to help with the heat. Rose called, so is very cute on the telephone, she says she misses us, and we miss her, and it will be fun to have her back tomorrow. Meanwhile we’re cleaning and packing and organizing the whole apartment. Big job. We leave Thursday and I’m not too sure how often I’ll write during the holiday. Back to more apartment preparations.

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived my last day of work for the summer. We leave early, very early, tomorrow morning. The car is packed. Rose is back. The heatwave continues. On and on. Had supper with some of the gang from work at NDQ. Did you see the Vine I posted with Rose racing the bowling ball? Apartment almost all clean, need to have a shower and give the washroom another once-over.

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I am still surviving vacation. Now in Lunenburg, with insomnia, it seems. Rose had such fun at the beach today she wore herself out and fell asleep at the Knot before her supper arrived, and hasn’t woken since. It’s been a great visit with Nanny, she is a real trooper. We plan to spend the morning together before heading to Ponhook to visit Grampy. Looks like a Bluenose video shoot may not happen, she is still up in drydock.
