Dear Stephen,
I am still alive. I survived another day of work and another workout at the gym. Currently working on my Venice Biennial text (for the Indigogo campaign) and finding info on the Canadian Pavilion. Also listening to the live stream from the May Day mass arrests in Montreal. Boy, does the #spvm ever love to make mass arrests! Rose was up twice last night, at 3:30 and again at 4. Also, she was a devil going to bed. Too much excitement from the visit with Victor. We know now that evening play dates lead to a poor night of sleep, but we have another scheduled with Thomas and Kim tomorrow. Just have to deal with it (first world problem).

Dear Stephen,
I am still alive. I survived what was only supposed to be a half day at work that turned into a full-day of problem-solving after one of the loaner HD projectors’ bulbs went. In the end, after searching high and low for replacement bulbs, even speaking to Christie tech support directly, I was able to swap in our LW400. It’s LCD, not DLP, and not native 1080p, but then again, neither is his media (ha-ha, just don’t tell Thomas Demand!). So in the end it looks good and I cancelled a rush order of two bulbs for over $1000. Ridiculous given that there are 7 working days left in the exhibition.
Tonight was a play date between Thomas and Rose and it went well, though she had a weird energy around suppertime and then fell off her chair by accident and after that she wanted to go to bed. Even though she came out of her room for dessert she still went down and had her stories while Thomas and Kim were still here. She was tired.
Sol had a visit from an osteopath today and has been basically sleeping ever since. He was awake after I came home from work and I wore him in the carrier to walk to the dep for chips and beer. Made a simple supper of pasta and chicken. Tired now, off to bed.

I survived a partial-sleepless night (thanks Rose! 3 visits), a partial day at work, some video editing, Darsha’s opening at SKOL which included a bus ride with Sol and Sarah W. and her dad Conrad, and then some Internet fussing when I came home. Working a very little bit on the Venice Indigogo and the Ok Quoi? video (now rendering, with more water skiing footage). Tired and probably smelly so will grab a shower before bed. Skipped the gym today, had lunch with Victoria outside in the sun instead.

Dear Stephen,
I am still alive. I survived another Monday. Work is starting to get busy. Suddenly I realize that in exactly 1 week we begin a major de-install, gah! This morning I took Judith and Robert on a tour of the show before they headed up to meet Clo at Aux Vivres for lunch. Last night I couldn’t write you as I stumbled home a tad drunk from the poetry reading at Sparrow. One of the main reasons they are in Montreal was because Robert was one of six authors at the reading. We had them over in the afternoon so we had started drinking rather early. Am now adding friends to the Facebook event “Send the everyday goalie to Venice”. It takes time. Already have 2 donors, Sophie and Anne. Slow n steady. Actually bought a few more street hockey balls and pucks at Canadian Tire when Rose and I went to pick up the car yesterday. Finally had the winter tires taken off.

I’m behind on some Sketchup plans for next summer’s show. And I’m behind on getting some of my Indiegogo perks finished, such as the goalie hockey card set (still not started). Am trying to figure out how to grab high-res stills from the videos to make prints. I did sign some pucks tonight, so am making some headway. Here is a letter I sent to Justin Trudeau from the CARFAC website:
As one of your constituents, I ask you to support CARFAC’s proposal to add the Artists’ Resale Right to The Copyright Act.
The Artist Resale Right would entitle artists to 5% from the resale of their work. This is important because the full value of an artwork often isn’t realized on the initial sale. It is common for visual art to appreciate in value over time, as the reputation of the artist grows. For example, acclaimed Canadian artist Tony Urquhart sold a painting, The Earth Returns to Life in 1958 for $250. It was later resold by Heffel Fine Art auction house in 2009 for approximately $10,000.
Once established in Canada, artists would be able to benefit from reciprocal arrangements with the 70 other countries where the Artist Resale Right exists. Canada’s European partners specifically requested that Canada adopt the Artists’ Resale Right during negotiations for the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement. Canada’s Aboriginal artists in particular are losing out on the tremendous profits being made on their work in the secondary market.
Thank you,

It wasn’t my initiative, she saw a picture in the Wizard of Oz activity book my mom sent and became completely fixated on heels (though in her 3.5-year old ind, the heels should be about 18″ high). So I caved, amazed the whole time how odd it is to see a child try on high heels. We bought them at some wedding and events clothing store for kids. Will Claudine ever be surprised! She’s en route from Ottawa at the moment. I should be bottling more beer, or reading ARTSNB applications, or working on my hockey cards, but my mind and body feel dull and worn out so I shall now go to bed with the New Yorker.

Graceless
Is there a powder to erase this?
Is it dissolvable and tasteless?
You can’t imagine how I hate this
Graceless
I’m trying, but I’m graceless
Don’t have the sunny side to face this
I am invisible and weightless
You can’t imagine how I hate this
Graceless
I’m trying, but I’ve gone
Through the glass again
Just come and find me
God loves everybody, don’t remind me
I took the medicine when I went missing
Just let me hear your voice, just let me listen
Graceless
I figured out how to be faithless
But it will be a sheme to waste this
You can’t imagine how I hate this
Graceless
I’m trying, but I’ve gone
Through the glass again
Just come and find me
God loves everybody, don’t remind me
I took the medicine and I went missing
Just let me hear your voice, just let me listen
All of my thoughts of you
Bullets through rock and through
Come apart at the seams
Now I know what dying means
I am not my rosy self
Left my roses on my shelf
Take the wild ones, they’re my favorites
It’s the side effects that save us
Grace
Put the flowers you find in a vase
If you’re dead in the mind it will brighten the place
Don’t let them die on the vine, it’s a waste
Grace
There’s a science to walking through windows
There’s a science to walking through windows
There’s a science to walking through windows
There’s a science to walking through windows without you
All of my thoughts of you
Bullets through rock and through
Come apart at the seams
Now I know what dying means
I am not my rosy self
Left my roses on my shelf
Take the wild ones, they’re my favorites

Grace
Put the flowers you find in a vase

Dear Stephen,
I am still alive. I survived the video shoot at the RCI site in Sackville today. It wouldn’t have happened as smooth as it did without the help of Amanda and her friend Ryan: tossing pucks, setting up the camera and tripod, recording sound, scouting locations. Amanda even got us inside and gave us a tour of the facilities, which was amazing. I took a bunch of pictures. It really felt like a piece of history that few people have had access to. I felt privileged.
Next we moved into celebration mode as we went out to eat to celebrate my dad’s retirement. We went to Tandi’s and then of course happinez and met up with Peter and I tried to convince him and Kim to come to Montreal for the National show on the 13th. He’s a big fan.
Also I spoke with Greg a bit about making a doc about my dear PM project with a focus on the infiltration aspect. Did I tell you that Louis-Philippe is now following me on Twitter? I feel perhaps my days as Papineau president could be numbered…
