subject L’exemption accordée à Bell Helicopter déplaît; Preliminary hearing for former Stephen Harper aide Bruce Carson starts Monday

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived a great weekend. Just watched the LA Kings finish off the Chicago Blackhawks in overtime. Much easier to watch playoff hockey when one doesn’t feel invested somehow. Though I must admit I do like the idea of a NY-LA final. Has that ever happened?

Today I went to Home Despot with Rose and bought a barbecue, finally. The cheapest propane model, and after an hour of assembly (Sol helped), and a visit from The Captain (Stacy, not the rum – we had some beers), we cooked up some potatoes and steaks. Kids went to bed easily (we watched some Arcade Fire music videos with Rose, which had her talking about death – how Mr. Skeleton touches the girl and she goes into the sky), then Clo and I sat out on the hammock and enjoyed the patio lanterns.

Re: the house: still undecided about which bank though we met with Madame Brochu at the Caisse on Friday and she offered us a good rate (2.4) and they pay the evaluations, which BN does not. Will decide this week.

Am working on a travel grant to get my ass to Calgary for M:ST in October.

subject Le NPD devra rembourser des millions $ en envois postaux; NDP charges House Speaker’s integrity is compromised in mailout embroglio

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived another Monday (though I have not yet
taken out the garbage and recycling but I will do so tomorrow
morning). Also today is mine and Claudine’s 7-year wedding
anniversary, so I guess I have survived the seven-year itch, or would
it technically begin this year? Time will tell. I survived work, and
managed to get some files uploaded for a Canada Council travel grant
to go to Calgary in October for M:ST. During that time I would also
like to go to Fort McMurray and get shots of the Everydaygoalie in
front of some nice prime Tar Sands real estate. I played a little ball
hockey tonight with the Montreal League of Ordinarily Skilled Ball
Hockey Enthusiasts at the under-utilized rink in the middle of TMR. I
think my goalie gear needs a good cleaning, but how?

subject Stephen Harper se rendra en Ukraine samedi; Reevely: The whoppers they told

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived biking home after the employee evaluation at SKOL in the multiple downpours. I stopped 6-7 times en route to take shelter, but was still soaked by the time I got home. Made meatloaf and couscous for supper. I should be adding up my receipts for my taxes but after a longer night putting the kids down I vegged on Fbook for a bit. A bit too long. Also I have been looking at satellite images of the Tar Sands, wondering just how the heck I am going to get some good goalie shots there this fall.

subject Accès à l’information: une étude critique sévèrement Ottawa; Three RCMP officers killed, two injured in Moncton, N.B.; manhunt on for shooter

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I’m surviving tabulating my taxes. Meeting Kim Friday morning. Meeting a structural engineer tomorrow to discuss the cracks in the staircase upstairs. Today the masons arrived and took out some of the cracked window sills and ledges to be replaced. The roofers were delayed again with the rain and now I notice a new leak in the basement. Tried to get appointments with 2 other “arpenteur géometrics” but when there is a response it is always the same: too busy. We’re beginning to wonder if we’ll close the sale on our place before the end of the summer.

subject Le nouveau commissaire à la vie privée critique C-13; Jim Flaherty’s net worth modest, according to his will

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived another weekend, another Monday, a few
less-than-stellar nights for sleeping. Sol is teething, seems to have
a mild gastro, is whinier, clingier and less happy than usual. Though
to be fair he does still groove like a champion. That kid already has
better dance moves than I. Sunday we went to JFK pool in Outremont
with S, E and F, so of course Rose was thrilled. Saturday we spent
mostly with P, B and R and L, so Rose was happy about that. We’ve been
enjoying the backyard. Today I went to IKEA with the Captain in search
of a tall conference-style table but we realized that we can extend a
pre-existing table for less money and have it suit the needs of the
“Reference Room” better. Just means more work for me tomorrow. And for
the past three nights Rose has complained of a canker sore on her
tongue but she really exaggerates at bedtime. Last night she screamed
for an hour, if we didn’t know our neighbours the way we do I wouldn’t
be surprised if the DPJ show up for a visit. Speaking of visits, I
really hope my travel grant comes through and I can go to Calgary for
the M:ST performance festival in October, and also get footage of the
#everydaygoalie in front of the Saddledome, the foothills, the Tar
Sands and maybe even that crazy billboard that blames the sun for
climate change.

subject Course au Bloc: Beaulieu calme le jeu; NDP told to pay back $1.17 million over Quebec satellite offices

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived another day of work, and then a night
home alone with the kids. Clo went to NY to visit Anne and Rebecca and
check out the New Museum. The kids were good tonight, and bedtime,
while not a breeze, was mostly painless. Rose loves her stories so
much she is always prodding me to “finish the story” even when I start
dozing off and start verbally daydreaming, screwing up the storylines.

Big news: tomorrow an ARPENTEUR GEOMETRIQUE is visiting to take
measurements, so our closing date could be 4 weeks away!

subject Cyberintimidation: des amendements majeurs au projet de loi rejetés; Wynne-r takes all, as Liberals roar back into power

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived the visit from the arpenteur. He spent
over 2 hours measuring our place, then moved on up. Good news though:
the 4-week turnaround we were told about was not post visit, but from
the moment we opened the dossier. Which means we could have our
certificates and our percentages by next week! Which means the sale
could conceivably go through before we go on vacation, as we had
initially hoped.

I went to work for a bit in the afternoon. I drove because it was
raining, which made picking up the kids easier, and since we were in
the car I figured, might as well go to IKEA! So Roe had fun in the
balls and I shopped a bit and we ate supper there and then came home.
Rose was sad because Nordine was closed: no blue ice cream for her
tonight. Pat came by while I was putting the kids to sleep with a
housewarming present, one of his mask paintings! They are almost all
set to go. We’ll try to get one more playdate in tomorrow.

subject Cyberintimidation: des amendements majeurs au projet de loi rejetés; Unrest in Iraq drives up pump prices in Canada

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived another day of rain. It was surprisingly
fruitful; I stayed at home, but did many little things around the
house. I installed new lighting in the bathroom and front hallway, I
vacuumed, I made a new table beside my desk in the studio, I cleaned
and organized the basement, I changed the sheets on the spare bed, I
washed, dried and folded a few loads of laundry, picked up the kids
and prepared supper and hosted L and R for supper as P and B had to go
get their moving van. I had expected to go and pick Clo up from the
airport but her flight was cancelled due to electrical storms in NY.
It is a pain, especially the $170 hotel charge, but that is better
than electrocution and a plane crash. Had a bit of an impromptu
farewell party for P and B and the family as PMcQ and JT and the
Captain came over. Now it’s raining again.

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived another Monday, yesterday, so I guess I
survived another Tuesday as well. Don’t much feel like writing now,
lots going on with vacation prep as we try to nail down a new closing
date for the house, and choose a bank. Now we are leaning towards Bank
Nationale. I think your decision over the Northern Gateway pipeline is
depressing me, but then again, what are the 209 conditions?

Dear Stephen,

I am still alive. I survived the Bunker Party (I took Rose so she
could go swimming in the 12-foot pool we set up on the sidewalk in
front of the loading bay so I could excuse myself early, before it
became drunken mayhem). When was the last time I even wrote you? I
just finished packing the car and Rose is having a pre-bedtime crisis.
I need a shower. I’ve been in a wicked bad mood for the past few days.
Have you been watching the football? I was quite glad to see Italy
shown the door by Uruguay. Is that how you spell it? I’m so stinky, I
really need a shower. Tomorrow we hit the road, Rose Sol and Sarah W.
to SJ, NB. That’s a long drive, at least the car is packed. Happy
St-Jean, BTW.
