Dear Justin,
I am still alive. I survived the night at Kanpp, even though I disregarded Katie’s explicit wishes and put the empty fireworks boxes in the fire and of course something went off and luckily everyone was inside but Clo was soooo pissed off and now I can really see a difference in me without my meds.
Today we hung out at Lily Lake as Judith was picking up Robyn from Longwater. Sol napped on the beach for almost 2 hours. We ate and stayed the night with Jeff and Kelly. Jude and Sol are getting along marvellously.

Dear Justin,
Claudine took the bus to Bathurst to get our car, which needed additional work – rear wheel bearings shot – but it’s done, fixed, and a deeper hole in our finances remains. She stayed with her friend Monika for the night, who is on vacation nearby. I hung out with Sol for the day, had lunch with Stephen and Monica, who have bought land and hope to build their house by 2020. Then I met with Jeff and Greg in their new UWork space to discuss some of the design elements for the UPods. Had supper with Robert and Judith and Robyn, then watched a movie about famed bank robber Jacques Mesrine.

Dear Justin,
I am still alive. Clo is back with the car, new-used engine and new bearings for the rear tires. Curt noticed they were bad and even gave us one of the ones to bring back to the dealership in Montreal who supposedly changed one back in April or whenever. Then we picked up Rose from Snider Mountain (well, first I cleaned the inside of the car at my folks’ house). Clo went ahead with my mom so they could get some shopping in at Frenchy’s. Rose’s team came in 5th at the relay but she loves the ribbon and I think had a really, really fun week. We’re back at Robert and Judith’s, started watching a movie called First Reformed, about a priest in a crisis of faith. It feels familiar to the slightly unhinged way my inner monologue feels lately. Sol and I are sleeping out on the daybed in the Flex Space. I am glad to have my meds back and hope they take effect soon. The weird dreams have been continuing.

Dear Justin,
I am still alive. I survived a trip to the Irving Nature Park for a short hike, which the kids loved, and spent some time on the beach, which they loved even more. Came home, had lunch, had a nap, then we all piled out to Jeff n Kelly’s, met Mel and Stephanie there, had a dry dinner party with hamburgers (both veggie and meat) and salads, dry to celebrate Robyn’s return from rehab. Then Kelly went to get the babysitter and when she returned we left for the Area 506 festival to hear the New Pornographers. Clo is getting a sore throat so we left before July Talk, walking along the Harbour Trail to retrieve our kids and head back to our home base for the summer, a house that Rose says, while I carried her up the stairs, and while half-asleep, that she knows like the back of her hand.

Dear Justin,
I am still alive. I survived a hot day. Had a great conversation with Robert, Judith and Clo about the Slāv and Kanata controversies. Started reading White Fragility. Judith took us all out to Pomadori’s for supper but the way the kids eat (or don’t) at restaurants led to Clo and I fighting. In the evening we all watched Logan Lucky, a great heist film. Last night I woke up with chest pains.

Dear Justin,
I am still alive. I survived a sail down the Kennebecasis river on Greg’s 25-foot sailboat with our kids. It was great fun, especially hitching the jib. We all ate at the marina afterwards, Greg’s treat.
The day started poorly with me fighting with Clo. I have unresolved issues and pent up anger. Sent with positive vibes from my super-duper hand-held computing device.

Dear Justin,
I am still alive. I survived my first-ever pedicure. How old were you when you had your first one? Tonight Clo and I went on a date night to see Three Identical Strangers and Sorry to Bother You at Cinema du Parc. We were running late so we drove, and forgot about the roof box until we tried to park underground. It wouldn’t fit, and was sheered off the roof of the car while we were backing up. We picked it up, put it in the back of the car and continued down to park. Both movies were awesome, in their own ways of course.

Dear Justin,
I am still alive. I survived another day at work, transferring video files, plugging things in, unplugging things, rearranging things, meeting, general running around. Claudine is in Quebec city tonight, so I took the opportunity to catch up on all my letters, right up until this one. I can send the last batch, the last three years, off to be printed and sent direct to the Confederation center, hopefully they will arrive before I do.

Dear Justin,
I am still alive. I am surviving a big switcheroo at home; we are switching bedrooms with the kids. So there has been dismantling furniture, unloading bookshelves, taking apart beds, patching holes, painting, building a new bed for Rose, re-assembling furniture, and now we will sleep in our new room for the first time. I am beat.
I’m still thinking sometimes about how good the Beyond Meat burger was at A&W.

Dear Justin,
I am still alive. Sorry I haven’t written lately, I’ve been quite busy with the room switcheroo and with work. The installation is advancing well, Karen has almost finished all the painting, and at 10 and I have built the wall for jill‘s ring, with the exception of a 4 x 8 section that will hold the ring box, and that we can’t install until the artist is on site, on 10 September. Tomorrow we will plaster as much of the wall joints as we can, and stars her the train. Claudine has been super busy as well with new tack and the conferences and her presentation is tomorrow, and she has been on a jury as well, so even though this has been our second week alone together it has definitely not been like a vacation. Fair enough, I miss the kids and I am getting really, really nervous about my filibuster performance at art in the open this coming Saturday. I was just re-reading some letters from the early years and they make me cringe with embarrassment. The idea of reading them to a large public for eight hours is starting to fill me with dread.

Dear Justin,
I am still alive. I survived a frantic day at work – I goofed up a key measurement for the vitrine we are building for Jill Magid – but luckily Atom helped me rush through new length cuts (mitred edges too! Might I add here how much I love Fesstools, especially vacuum and the plunge saw) and as soon as the box was fitted together with glue I shot out at 3pm sharp to catch the 747 and crawl through traffic to catch my flight to Toronto. Now I’m about to take off from Pearson for Charlottetown. Going into airplane mode now.

Dear Justin,
I am still alive. I survived PEI, Art in the Open and my 8-hour performance called Filibuster. Just coming back now from Hans and Angel’s marvellous place out in Millvale, with Sarah and Pascal. I’ll tell you more tomorrow while on the bus to Moncton I can’t concentrate now.

Dear Justin,
I am still alive. I survived getting off the island and the flight from Moncton. Met my mom and kids in Amherst, they were coming up from the south shore. It was so good to see them, and they were excellent travel companions.
Today was their first day at school, and I was back to work. It’s a bit hard to get back into these routines as the heatwaves continue.

Dear Justin,
I am still alive. I survived a day stuck in traffic snarls running errands to gather materials for the VOX install. Also, we just now finished watching Money Heist on Netflix. It was another hot humid day, I’m glad the AC is still working in the car.

Dear Justin,
I am still alive. I survived another day of work at VOX, some minor changes to the exhibition layout, some hassling with the mixer, but all in all there is progress. I’m exhausted though and am going to bed. What an exciting Friday night!
