Dear Justin,
So apparently you are going to call an election on Sunday. Just great. We just came back from vacation last night, my brother’s partner Karen went into labour last night, Jess has today to pack for her residency before we drive there tomorrow, I’m back to work asap with three other side projects on the go, and you call an election as the 4th Delta variant fuelled wave is climbing. Brilliant. Now I’m also scrambling to figure out if I can get a nomination package in with the 100 signatures in like a week. I really hope this backfires on you.

Dear Justin,
Just back from Ameliasburgh, where Jess is staying at the Al Purdy A-Frame residency for the next 5 weeks. It’s a quaint, cozy cabin which at one time may have been more isolated but now there is a fairly large cottage community around the lake. I’m stressed about all the things to do on my list. I did manage to get the roof sealant on top of Ramsay after I got home, but now there is a hole or bad seal in the exhaust system of my car and I’ll need to drop it off to be fixed on Wednesday. Still need to find a weekend sitter for the kids for the last weekend in August and getting those 100 signatures is going to be downright impossible, I just have no time. Maybe I’ll just throw some of my old campaign signs up and call it a day.

Dear Justin,
Happy Day 4 of the election campaign? I have not yet so much as printed off any of the nomination forms. Was busy at Vox yesterday preparing the day for the screen hanging today. Stayed a bit afterwards working on the shelving for Artexte but the process is very slow. Went to Anne’s after that and more or less finished the mural, and did some touch-ups to other walls. Hope to finish that tonight. I’m dropping the car off to the garage this morning before work as she needs a couple gaskets replaced in her exhaust pipe. It was a loud ride back from Ameliasburgh, and I have the big drive to Owen Sound coming up in less than 2 weeks. Still trying to organize a babysitter, and can’t find a sleepover for Sol on the Friday. Rose is going to be with Fleur. Oh, I forgot to mention to you that my brother had his baby boy, Delaney, on Friday.

Dear Justin,
I don’t know what it is, but I slept awfully last night, my worst sleep in a long time. My thoughts were racing, about finding someone to watch the kids next week, to little details about the Vox install, to my projects not yet finished, to sleeping alone – even tried Pornhub to relieve the tension, but that site is just full of garbage porn. The climate crisis is getting me down, this pointless election, the cynicism gets me down. The city, the construction, the smog, the heat, the humidity. I tended to the garden a bit last night when I got home, but aside from the tomatoes and the kale and the bell peppers, everything is dead or dying. I’m stressed about money, again, big surprise. Judith sold another Rooftop painting, which is great but will probably only cover upcoming car repairs. The vacation cost more than I had expected, it’s making me throw into doubt our plans to drive across the US in December – it will probably cost over $2600 in gas alone, even with US prices. And $2000 to fly the kids to BC… And probably $2000 for a decent solar array and DC cooler… on the other hand, if I don’t do something like this now, when can I? Or just wait and wait for the kids to be in high school before moving? Jess is ready to move to the country, being in the A-Frame is only solidifying her desire to move to a more rural area. I offered $20K for the Backland road property on the peninsula we viewed during our vacation, the asking price is $59K, the agent wants to talk with me… maybe she finds it so low she doesn’t want to tell the owner… I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with the kids starting school next week, getting into the new fall routine, the mundanity of it all. Ugh.

Dear Justin,
It’s hot and humid outside, but I’m getting my projects done. Yesterday woke up early and then fell back asleep, post mdma night with Mo. The evening was impromptu, and took an unexpected turn of a sexual nature. It was weird, and as I realized in conversation with Jessica last night, not kosher with our monogamous relationship. For some reason the drugs and the fact it was Mo didn’t seem to count, in my mind. I even took some video to show her, as I think she would find that hot. Anyway, I think it’s cleared up, but I do need to be a little less dumb. Anyway, making progress on the Artexte hooks, finished the paint touchups at Anne’s, and biked to Marilou’s to take stock of her upcoming projects, which I’ll start today. She wants a shoe cabinet customized, a blackboard wall painted, and some shelves hung. The hardest part will be cycling there and back in this heat. I’m inside and sweating already.

Dear Justin,
Back to work Monday – just Vox this time, though I did sand the last remaining book-hanging pins for Artexte while I was on the phone with my therapist. She seems to think our travel plans are great, and a perfect thing for Jessica and I to do together. Did I mention I was at Marilou’s yesterday evening, painting the chalkboard and hanging shelves? It all took longer than planned, Jessica and I had a phone-in RADAR. I listened to the whole Missing and Murdered podcast about Alberta Williams unsolved case, all day yesterday and today, hard to listen to yet hard to stop. There is so much to do, the 94 calls to action, the MMIWG inquiry which didn’t go nearly far enough into police institutional racism and botched investigations, land back, stopping oil development now, not in 5 years or 10 years, none of this pandering to the oil lobby, just transition now already. Canada has failed ALL our climate objectives for the past thirty years, and I don’t think we have thirty more to dither about. Do you love your kids? Then maybe start acting like it.

Dear Justin,
Another day, another fistful of dollars. Installed the book-hanging shelves for Artexte, Joanna and Mojeanne were quite happy, and the installation was quick and painless. Not like Fairy Creek. Have you been following what has been going on out on Vancouver Island, with the RCMP assaulting land defenders? Abuse of power comes as no surprise, and Liberals and NDP alike sucking up to the tit of big business is no surprise either. All I want for Christmas is another Liberal government, only propped up by the NDP and the Bloc. If I was aiming for the pie in the sky the Greens would have a breakthrough, but that won’t happen, though I do hope Anamie Paul wins her seat in Toronto. I’m off to sip some whiskey in this heat and clean up the kids room and prepare the house for their return on Thursday. It’s too hot to cook, I just eat wraps. I should water the garden too, we’re still getting tomatoes and peppers. I’ll listen to some Canadaland, the Backbench. Heard the second episode of White Saviors today, can you believe you almost handed that WE cult millions and millions of dollars?

Dear Justin,
I am still alive. I made the drive to Owen Sound on Friday to attend Hank and Liz’s wedding on Saturday on her parents’ property, Jess and I amongst the very last to close the party afterwards – there was karaoke, and we had each chosen three songs, so we had no choice – and then the return drive on Sunday. I left Ramsay with Jess in Ameliasburg, and luckily there was no traffic on the way into Montreal so the kids were still up. Sam had watched them Saturday night and my Ex had gotten them a sitter for Friday. It was back to work Monday Blues yesterday, Evan on site for projection mapping, Myles and I ran speaker wire through the ceiling for the new parabolic speaker I picked up from Solotech in the morning. My secret parking spot worked out just fine, no ticket, and then picked the kids up after school, home to make supper, I was completely wiped out by bedtime. Up early this morning for a shower and I feel much better, ready to tackle another big day of hanging artworks from the ceiling, fun!
