Dear Justin,
Took Sybil for her mouth surgery yesterday morning, I managed to give her the sedative the night before, and got her into her travel case with no difficulty at all. She was on the bed getting her nighttime pets and just happened to cross over me to the side of the bed where I had placed the carrier on it’s end – like Jessica had done a couple months ago. She did NOT like being in the cage, and tried throughout the night to pull at the door. I was able to visit with SRoberts and her sister and Old Greg yesterday after dropping Sybil off – the clinic is right around the corner. The surgery went well, and I drove back down to pick her up at 7pm with the kids. Sybil was doped up and all confused when we got home, and kept bumping into things, because of course she is wearing one of those cones. And there are 3 different medications I have to give her! 2 of them are liquid and I have to pump them into her mouth with a syringe, which I thought would be impossible but somehow I did it, both last night and this morning. She seems to be healing well. I have her locked in the bedroom / studio so Crowley does not annoy her, and hiss at her like last time.
Regarding the election: you still suck, I hope you see now how stupid it was to buy that pipeline, and that all your so-called “progressive” supports ditch you for the NDP. Maybe we’ll see a minority conservative government with the Bloc holding the balance of power? Or a three-way tie between the Bloc, the NDP and the Cons? Just so long as nobody gets a majority I’ll be relatively happy, though I don’t think I’ll ever be truly happy (with Canadian politics) until the RCMP and Indian Act are eliminated, Crown land is given over to Indigenous Peoples, the country leaves the Commonwealth and fully attempts to de-colonize itself.

Dear Justin,
How is it September already?
How did we manage to (mostly) finish the install today?
Probably by working 9 hours straight with no pauses breaks or lunch. Ate some grapes in between hanging shit.
Bodes well for Labour Day haha.
Off to collect Rose, we are having a father-daughter weekend. Sol is with my Ex at Steves’s cottage in Ontario. It’s good for the kids to have a bit of solo time. I had Sol last night, we walked up the Plaza, had dumplings at that cool place where you can watch the ladies making the dumplings in the window, and looked for a phone case but didn’t find one. He was grumpy, and then tired, but his mood improved when we had ice cream and then at home looked online for a phone case and found a really cool Pokemon one. He’s been watching a series on Netflix. BTW Netflix should pay way more tax. Also cancel that pipeline – and end all oil subsidies. That means plastic too! The time to transition to a renewable, eco-responsible economy is NOW.
Oh, and in case you missed it in earlier messages, LAND BACK.

Dear Justin,
Had a very fun and relaxed long weekend with Rose. We went to Chinatown, ate Ramen at a great place I’ve never been before, Sumo Ramen. We finally found her a new schoolbag at Schreter’s, and I got Sol a fancy lunchbox featuring Grogu, as I had a $50 credit. We walked the Plaza a few times, also ate at the dumpling place, and since I didn’t have any change when someone asked me I bought them shoes as they weren’t wearing any and asked if I would. Then I spent too much, but figured I just won’t buy myself new shoes this fall as I don’t really need shoes. Not like I am walking around barefoot. We watched lots of movies – Sixth Sense, Clue and Mean Girls, and a bunch of Parks and Rec. We also bleached and dyed a streak of pink in her hair, it looks really good. She really matches with her papa now!

Dear Justin,
Holy shit I just watched the documentary Seaspiracy and wow I am glad I’ve gone vegan and stopped eating seafood. The commercial fishing industry is just as bad as the petro-chemical industry. Stop subsidizing both, they are literally killing the planet. Deforestation, Fairy Creek, ll these extractive industries, the pursuit of more, more, more, it’s getting so, so depressing. Jessica and I are talking about speeding up our flight to the countryside, to live more simply. But what to do about the kids? And what more can I be doing to help make the world better for them? How does the public school system help or hinder them? What should I do? Seriously, fuck you and fuck this election, you opportunistic power-hungry pipeline-blowing fucking prick.

Dear Justin,
It was a day of puttering and little fixes at Vox, and tonight sitting through virtual meetings with the kids’ teachers. Almost bought the BougeRV array of power generator, solar panels and DC fridge but they don’t ship to Canada, so the search continues. Am trying to decide between the Blueti and the Jackery. Might watch the “leaders” debate tonight, but should go get beer and chips first. Oh, and last night I went to the inauguration of Momenta with Aiana. We met up for a drink first at Midway – 2 drinks – then walked to the BaNQ where the event was held outside. It was nice to catch up with her. Still felt weird to be at an event and seeing people again. I think I am even less social than I was before.

Dear Justin,
Happy nine-eleven. Hard to believe it has been 20 years already… so 20 years and 9 month I’ve been writing to the PM. Will I be writing to a Mr. O’Toole after next week? Or a Mr. Singh? Probably not a Ms. Paul, but that was the party I voted for in the advance voting this weekend. The address had changed from that on the card, and construction on Christophe Colombe (seriously we need to change the name of this street) made access to the church on Bélanger difficult, but not impossible. I voted Green because why the heck not? I live in Alexandre Boulerice’s riding, and he is probably a safe bet to keep his seat. Anyway, I took the kids to Canadian Tire so I could buy the 12v cooler, and then we went to the Cinema Guzzo with all the arcade games (1/3 are broken) and watched Free Man, which was actually kinda funny and a bit smart and goofy – not total shit, which was refreshing. A bit like Lego Movie meets the Matrix meets Truman Show. Maybe we’ll watch Truman Show tomorrow. Tonight we watched That Sugar Film, as I’m trying to get the kids to think a bit more about the effects of sugar – well, sucrose – on their bodies. It’s a bit of a primer to watch 2040, by the same director, in a few weeks with Jessica. I had better get planning for her birthday party / veganniversary at the end of the month.

Dear Justin,
Drove to Jonquière and back today, delivering Juan’s artwork and equipment for his upcoming show at the CNE. Had one minor hiccup in the morning just as Myles arrived to help me load in the 2 heavy crates and I realized I had locked the keys to the rental van inside the van. In the ignition, in fact, and the engine running. Luckily I still have CAA and they dispatched someone who has the little balloon that they use to pump apart a door so the long windy arm can get inside and unlock the door, or lower the window, whichever is easiest. Anyway it was a lot of driving, listened to some podcasts, some music and a bit more of that audiobook Debt: the first 5000 years.

Dear Justin,
Drove my parents to the airport this morning, they fly out to BC to visit Aaron and Karen and my new nephew Delaney for 1 month. The kids were excited because I promised them breakfast at Tim Hortons. Today I’m at Vox again but to finish up and install the Plexi panels for Artexte, as well cut away a section of a countertop in their kitchen as they have a new refrigerator and need the space. It’s all work I’ve added to the bill for doing those fancy book-hanging shelves, but as a result I’m getting low on cash. I also paid everything up front for the transport job, and Enterprise took a $300 deposit because I don’t have a credit card, just a Visa Debit. I need to bill the CNE directly. Also I haven’t charged Marilou yet, as I am finishing up a panel to hide her electrical panel and also painting her backsplash tiles this weekend, with Sol as my helper. I’m taking him Sunday so we have some solo time together. I dislike transferring money back and forth from my TSFA to make sure I have money for daily expenses but at least I always try to send back more than I take. Of course buying the car and all the subsequent repairs takes a toll on my savings. Jessica and I are talking more seriously of buying land soon so we have a place to start building our off-grid, permaculture home by next summer. Our Jackery portable solar power generator and our 100-watt solar panel arrived yesterday, so next weekend I can test at least the Jackery and the cooler on our weekend away. It’s a trial for the cross-USA trip and as well a starter system for next summer. I really want to leave the rat race.

Dear Justin,
Had a whirlwind weekend. Drove to Ameliasburg on Friday to spend some solo time with Jessica. We ate really good Korean food at a restaurant in Trenton, twice. I drove back Saturday night, picked Sol up this morning for a solo day with him but I had agreed to paint the backsplash at Marilou’s place so had to go there twice with him, and just came back from the second coat and cleanup visit, and I’m worn out. Sol and I ate at our favourite dumpling place on St. Hubert and ordered sushi for supper and watched Nausicaâ of the Valley of the Wind. He was upset that some Pokemon cards I bought for him today were not the kind he thought they would be. Oh, and Sybil did not eat her food with the sedative this morning and I couldn’t get her into the carrier so she has not had her post-op checkup. I’m going to leave this to Jessica to figure out. I’m off to bed, I start at the CCA tomorrow. Are you regretting calling this election yet?

Dear Justin,
Happy Election Day. I had a fairly calm, evenly-paced first day at the CCA, de-installing the previous show. I’m home puttering and housecleaning while listening to results trickle in on The Breach, because fuck the mainstream media. Watched interviews and commentary from Pam Palmater, El Jones and Nora Loretto – amazing lineup. And now it seems like we will essentially have the same parliamentary makeup as before we had this $600-million election. I hope you are happy.

Dear Justin,
another day, another handful of dollars earned as the de-install continues at the cca. finished the project at marilou’s, vacuumed the car, organized a bit more the kitchen, cleaned out the kitty litter, made food. listened to sandy and nora for the best analysis of the shit-show we called an election. the greens trying to be the ndp, the ndp trying to be the liberals, the liberals just being the liberals and the conservatives also wanting to be the liberals and the ppc controlling the entire narrative. good points made that the ndp is so boring and rusty, and that the greens really need to merge with the ndp and get more radical, either that or the left needs to form some sort of more leftist party, because what the fuck?

Dear Justin,
Glad to have finished a short week of work, and excited for the weekend trip to Ameliasburg and camping with the kids and Ramsay! Getting the house ready, washing laundry, sweeping and mopping the kitchen floor, organizing, packing the car, watching videos on Earth Ships – I guess that’s a bit of a distraction. Spoke with Mo on the phone and he is really against our USA trip – he has some good points. It looks like the boarder might relax end of October, but also it is a long, long drive and I wonder if it is the best use of our time and resources, especially given we really seem to have settled on the idea of buying land and building over the next few years. Yes it is fun to hit the road with Ramsay but I am not enthused about spending close to $3000 in gasoline – too bad Erika isn’t an electric car! If she was I never would have been able to afford her.

Dear Justin,
More action at cca, painting ceilings, trying to match old paints, lots of cleaning and organizing, and then the usual lunches to make and kids to collect and supper to make and podcasts to listen to and cars to park – I’ve been taking the kids to school in my parents’ car, too cold in mornings to bike – not really but we lazy – and parking up by the school and taking the metro to work. It’s a bit of juggling trying to ensure that both cars are parked ok – I got a ticket yesterday but I will fight it as the signage was not clearly marked. I’ll fight them all.

Dear Justin,
Happy Orange Shirt / National Truth and Reconciliation Day. Killing the TMX pipeline project would have been a nice gesture. I did hear that the courts have upheld the tribunal findings that the Canadian Government actively underfunded child welfare services on reserves, so there will be some major restitution there, so that could be seen as a nice victory against your government’s efforts to overturn that. Also, the Fairy Creek injunction was halted, due to RCMP thuggery, so Teal Jones can go fuck themselves. I had to take the kids and myself for COVID testing after school. A student in Rose’s class tested positive. The testing was very efficient, no lineup at all. Should get results by tomorrow. The kids are in bed. Rose filled out an ADHD online questionnaire but scored quite low – she certainly has some symptoms, but her messiness, sloppiness, forgetfulness and spacing out can also be simply aspects of her personality, and perhaps more connected to her creativity. Anyway, I’m off to try to figure out some Nintendo switch online crap.
