Dear Justin,
Had a follow-up appointment to remove the last of the dust – it was rust, apparently – yesterday morning and I must say the optometrist was quite good. Maybe it is only the emergency services at the Jean Talon hospital which are so bad. I think they re-painted a hallway so it looked better. Amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do to disguise a crumbling health care system! Anyway my eye was more painful yesterday after having that last little speck of rust dug out, so it was a good thing Pascal found someone else to do the return run. The weather was crap so I took the metro to Vox – I’m starting to work there more regularly although I was also prepping and starting to paint a large banner for the upcoming #killthedrill actions this week. Jess has been at the CEP a lot this week, printing a book but there has been a lot of tech issues. I’ve been puttering at home tonight, cleaning and watching Trixie Mattel and Katya discuss shows and movies on Netflix. Better than actually watching Netflix.

Dear Justin,
Decided to sleep in this morning, then went on a long bike ride looking for a used Canadians hockey jersey. Didn’t find one, but I did get a brand new all white jersey at Play it Again Sports down in Westmount, which was close to the RBC action at noon. We handed out almost 200 flyers to folks passing by. With the sun it felt like a summer day, so weird to be protesting fossil fuel investments and benefitting from the fucked up weather at the same time. Next was a stop at Canadian Tire and then Sports Experts but a new Habs jersey costs $140. I decided to paint a C on the white one, as well as RBC logos on the sleeves, and then douse it in an oil stain. Haven’t decided if I should do that live at the Bell Centre protest on Saturday or beforehand. Tonight Jess and I will be folding pamphlets she printed, although she developed a headache today after all the research she was doing on people who sleep on Twitch. She’s giving a presentation on the topic at the Parachute Club in Toronto early next week. I just want to chill and try not think of just how fucked up the world is. To celebrate I ordered from Chu Chai, a vegan Thai place, and bought a bottle of wine.

Dear Justin,
Well I haven’t been arrested yet, although I did give my name and number to a couple SPVM on Saturday. Did I tell you about my banner-painting meeting in front of my adopted branch on Friday? The cops had shown up at the same time as me, and for a good half hour outnumbered me 6 to 1. They must have really been paying attention to the social media because I had not promoted the event very much. Saturday I dragged the kids around with me to a few different actions as well as to Vox for a work thing. The first action was at the RCMP headquarters, we blocked off the entrance with caution tape. Then I had to work, setting up for a Zoom conference. Then I joined up with the Noise event, which came on the heels of a march between McGill and Concordia. I took Sol home, and then came back downtown for the Centre Bell action, where I put on my newly-painted Habs jersey with an oil stain on it and pranced around photobombing the arriving fans. It’s a great spot to protest, great visibility and so timely with the recent RBC sponsoring of the Habs. Not sure if I can get a group together for this Wednesday’s home game but definitely Saturday. And I’ve joined a west coast based group that are keen on more aggressive civil disobedience actions so I am trying to read up on my rights if an arrest is made. Fun stuff, trying in vain to go up against Canada’s biggest company.

Dear Justin,
Happy Remembrance Day, where we collectively interrupt our constant daily war mongering for one minute of silence to commemorate the horrors of war.

Dear Justin,
Sorry for my absence, I haven’t been arrested or anything, just protesting lots. I did chick out of a Habs game goalie appearance last night as the mercury was hitting 0, I found it too cold. Also I appeared to be the only one who was going to show up, the Cowardly RBC Lion had to take his cat to the vet for UTI surgery. An officer from the SPVM did call me in the morning asking about it, wondering how many we were going to be, in the street or not, etc. I’ve got a fair bit of planning meetings coming up including another RCMP / RBC protest with the CEGEP kids this afternoon, but I don’t think I’ll do the Bell Centre as the Goalie again unless there is a confirmed crowd going.
In other news I went to a Toyota dealership the other day and put a $500 deposit on a lease for a 2023 RAV4, but the ETA is 12-16 months so I think I’ll cancel it and probably just keep Erika. Or sell her and go back to Communauto? The problem with Erika is that Jess will find it difficult to learn stick while she is learning to drive, and the problem with Communauto is she can’t drive at all with her learners permit. We’re trying to get the apartment ready for winter. Jess is getting rid of her studio, so I just bought a new (antique) desk for Sol so they each have a desk in that shared room.
OK off to another protest. #killthedrill

Dear Justin,
Another day, no dollars. The kids each had journées pédagogiques, Rose went and hung out with friends, but Sol had to stay home as he and Boris both had fevers today. They had hung out together yesterday
after school so obviously caught the same bug. Sol’s fever hit 40 by
the afternoon. Jess found a nice chair on FB Marketplace to replace the Gus Modern Soren chair that Judith gave me. All my modern furniture has slowly disappeared, the cats clawing them has been a big factor. Also nothing I had really matches Jess’s aesthetic. Anyway we drove to Vaudreuil to get a vintage crushed velvet chair. I’ll try to
sell the Soren on Kijiji. Tomorrow another RBC protest is happening in Westmount. I think I’ll try to hand-deliver French and English copies of the letter from the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs to give to the branch manager.
